Rental Terms
All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement that you will receive upon booking confirmation or when collecting your vehicle. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance information, associated charges, and your responsibilities during the rental period. In the event of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To hire a vehicle with Car Hire, you must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type, with potential extra fees for drivers under 25. A valid full driving licence for the appropriate vehicle category is required, held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement. Additionally, you must present valid identification and proof of your current address, along with valid payment information and a security deposit. Any further requirements outlined in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made via our website, by telephone, or directly at our Billingham office. A deposit may be required to confirm your booking. The remaining balance and a security deposit are generally payable at the time of vehicle collection. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be generated and signed by both parties. The vehicle must be returned in the same condition as it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged appropriately. The vehicle should be returned with the same fuel level as when it was collected; failure to do so will result in refueling charges. Late returns could lead to additional fees, so please inform us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges incurred during the rental period, along with an administrative fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. For comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts, please refer to your Rental Agreement. You may have the option to purchase additional insurance to lower your financial liability. It is advisable to read these options thoroughly. You are liable for damages or loss up to the insurance excess, except when additional insurance is in place. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms remains your responsibility, irrespective of insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies differ based on the type of booking and the notice period provided. For precise information, consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Please be aware that late cancellations or failure to show may incur additional charges.
7. Restricted Activities
Prohibited Uses of Rental Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for illegal activities or any form of racing, rallying, or off-roading. It is prohibited to transport hazardous materials or to sub-let the vehicle to third parties. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly forbidden. Users must adhere to passenger and weight limits, as well as geographical restrictions.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and fees.
8. Liability Restrictions
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Car Hire Billingham is not responsible for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, resulting from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims will not exceed the total amount you paid for the rental in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.
9. Applicable Law
These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will fall under the jurisdiction of English and Welsh courts.
